Needed surgery to remove the pulmonary embolism. Finally infection and internal hemorrhaging led to another surgery which left me with a temporary colostomy.

My first surgery was in May of 1984 to form the internal pouch, then 3 months after letting it heal, the second surgery was performed and the temporary ileostomy was removed and I was hooked up. Ready and very anxious to get on with my life as we should be.

2024年8月18日 · It makes me angry that there aren't more options for ostomies. I had an ileostomy for 12 years when I discovered the BCIR. I've had internal pouches for 30 years, and it's been the best thing that ever happened to me. No more bags, accidents, or embarrassment. The doctor who performed my BCIR retired, and it seems nobody does them now.

2024年9月23日 · One reason is the one you mentioned, having to go a lot. The other is that your output with an ileostomy is more caustic and therefore damaging to the skin. Many ileostomy reversals experience terrible skin irritation around the entrance to the rectum, from constant exposure to the caustic output. A raw butthole is not fun.

2023年12月15日 · My colitis is under control. I have lived on laxatives every day for years, and my rectum is shot, slow colon nerve damage, prolapsing internal hemorrhoids. I honestly am not able to find a doc willing to give me an ileostomy because they think I am too high risk because I have no spleen and am immunocompromised.
