2012年8月6日 · Because I work in the mill and the saw blades are free to me - if everyone is in a good mood - all but one of my knives have been made from saw blade steel. As for cutting, I have a 4 1/2" angle grinder that I use cutoff wheels on.

2012年8月15日 · Bandsaw blades (I assume that we are talking about the big industrial blades, 4 inches or better) are often L6 or one of the 91xx, or 92xx series steels. You can treat them like 1095 pretty much. If we are talking about something else, like consumer grade blades, they could be anything, often they are mild steel with hard teeth welded on.

2019年3月25日 · You can definitely HT both 1075 and W2 with a pipe in the forge, they're simple steels. As for bringing out hamon, the usual procedure is to sand up to 2000 grit, then gently etch with ferric chloride or hot lemon juice, then gently polish with powdered abrasives in oil.

He snagged some very large used band saw blades from his workplace thinking they would be good for pattern welding stuff for knife blades. Turns out they had carbide cutting teeth and the band part was 4140 so not so good knife making material.

2016年10月29日 · They'll make great knives, but you may find they won't hold an edge as long as a "known" steel. If u can, find some of the older blades without carbide inserts. These are invariably made of a tougher steel that holds their temper under constant abuse. Old sawmill blades are great for this, but dang hard to find anymore.
