Floor & Decor (feel free to roast me if I deserve it) claims it's "Rania Locust" which apparently translates to "Eye-Catching Locust." Specs show Janka 1700, which aligns close enough to Black Locust (wood database link).

Flip the plywood and rout 1/2" wide x 5" long grooves, centered across the glue joints, about half way through the board thickness -- maybe 4 to 6 inches apart. Then cut spline strips (preferably hardwood) to match the grooves. Glue-in the strips and sand flush.

Birch will be a good match, but you'll want sapwood, rather than heartwood, and birch has little sapwood, which means you're going to have a hard time making a match with solid lumber. Plywood preferentially uses birch sapwood for the surface veneer and the darker heartwood goes in the middle.

Then hand sand the perimeter (always with the grain). Screens should be used up to 100 grit for stain floors, and to 150 grit for natural floors. Paul, Duvall, WA.

2020年1月25日 · Then to the planer for final dim. I can get two ~5/16" slices out of a piece of 3/4" (1" nominal) stock. A quick pass on the planer gets me finished .250" dimensioned stock. I can get 3, 1/4" pieces out of full 4/4 stock (or at least 2, 1/4" pieces and a 3/16" slab). All of the previous with a thin kerf blade.
