2008年12月15日 · The porch itself is roughly 2x1m and there is no door between it and the downstairs hall (previous front door has been taken out). The porch is making the downstairs of the house extremely cold due to it only being made of a single layer of bricks and having no insultation to speak of whatsoever.

It has timber door with a varnished finish and plastic framed side windows with double glazed units. The cracking where it meets the main property is tapered and currently 7mm. Surveyor said the porch is moving away from the property.

It used to be open (ie just covered space) with only an inner front door (between porch and main house). Recently, in order to create more 'inside' space, we put a new front door on the outside of the porch space.

2010年10月27日 · Thanks both. We didn't add the porch- we moved in about 5 years ago and I must say I haven't noticed it getting worse. I can't add a picture right now the gap between the porch and the house is larger at the top than the bottom of the porch- I'd say just less than half a centimetre at the worst point.

Think about the door first and how it will swing and then decide how you will build the walls around it, whether that be face brickwork, block (and render) or timber (and clad). Primarily though, porches are little more than draught excluders or weather shelters.
