2021年6月18日 · Sorry but I just can't waste a razor clam on crab bait. Gut bag, roe or anything else soft and oily will work too. Hang that cup inside at the center from the top of your trap. The use a bait bag for the fish backs and heads. Tie it shut so the bait cant get pulled out. I suspend my bait bag from the center top of the trap and tie it to the bottom.

2020年3月7日 · Store them in a simple Cheap chest freezer for the Garage/back porch ( Bait Freezer) AKA Craigslist find. Then you have some of the best bait available anytime your crabbing. Shad is very oily and stinky which is exactly what you want. Stuff your traps over filled full of Shad bait and your pots will generally be plum full.

While I don't care to use my delicious razors for crab bait, it occurs to me that razor clam guts or the invasive purple varnish clams might be a reasonable substitute.

2021年6月29日 · It was NOT: ‘What is the best crab bait?” I presume the question was asked b/c the poster has both chicken and shad, and is asking which is better for attracting/catching crab. If you have both, my advice is to throw the shad in the crab pot; and throw the chicken on the grill with some dry rub and a good BBQ sauce.

2011年7月6日 · I started putting butter clam and razor clam guts in the cups of our pots. It works at least as well as squid for cup bait. Never used the purple varnish clams, but cockles have been used for crab bait by commercial fishermen for a long time. Smash em, throw them in a bag and let us know how you do!

Remember, if it is not specifically prohibited, it is legal. I agree however, it is a poor use of good food.
