Automakers operating in India plan to launch close to a dozen new electric car models this year, many in the premium market, with longer driving ranges and faster charging times, to attract buyers as demand for EVs slows down globally.

India will be the global production hub for Suzuki Motor's electric cars and it plans to export the vehicles back to Japan as well as other markets, such as Europe, despite a slowdown in sales of EVs,

Suzuki plans to enter the small electric car segment in India, using the country as its production hub. The company's first EV, the e VITARA, will debut in India and be exported globally. Suzuki believes there is still a strong market for affordable small cars in India,
