Unsurprisingly, Rahman’s visuals reflect just that, showing a more angular volume slider design. The new sliders end with a solid handle line, making it much clearer where the volume is set. This is a big upgrade from the old rounded bubbles, which could make it hard to tell the exact volume level.

Ahead of a potential debut, a new volume slider and panel design has been discovered in Android 16 that better aligns with Material Design.

The Android 16 launch date is coming up surprisingly quickly, and it won’t be long before the first beta version of the software is available for us all to enjoy. While there’s still a lot we don’t know about Android 16 and the changes it will incorporate, it looks like we may see some design changes to both the back button and the volume slider.

Android 16 is potentially redesigning the volume slider and panel UI, moving away from the thick, pill-shaped sliders introduced in Android 15 to thinner, continuous sliders with distinct handles. Other visual changes include repositioning the music note icon to the bottom of the slider (from its previous volume-dependent placement) and slightly reducing the size of the three-dot overflow menu icon.
