IMHO, a map is always handy in the event that you decide to explore other areas of the particular places where you are hiking. There are two interesting side canyons on your left (N) at about 1 mile in, and also at about 2 miles into the wash, from the Buckskin trailhead. The first has some interesting rock sculpting, the second, larger, side canyon looks a lot like the Wave area. You should be able to ascertain where Buckskin Gulch is if you head up into these tributaries. Enjoy your hike. Take lots of water, it is 3.5-4 miles to the narrows and slot area. Some folks choose to exit via Wirepass canyon, (trail is marked @ about 4.5 miles, turn Rt. hike upstream for 1.7 miles to trailhead) and then either hike, beg a ride, or have prepositioned an alternate method of transport for the 3.5 mile excursion back to Buckskin via the road. Yes, a map of the area could be real handy. Good Luck, have fun.
Planning to go in 2 weeks (end of April). Is hiking in water unavoidable? We plan to walk about 2miles in then out from Wire Pass Trailhead. Or is the trail pretty dry and you only wade in water further into the canyon?

I think it would depend on how much rain comes in before you go. The farther in you go the more likely you'll encounter water but reading recent reviews it seems that there is some standing water you'll encounter, even if its small puddles. Just be prepared and bring water shoes that are secure. Areas can get muddy and you'll lose a shoe if you're not careful. A hiking pole to gauge the depth of the water is also extremely helpful.
